You Are Mental

You all must have heard of an emulator. I just heard about them a month ago, so I got a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator, and continued to find some games. I only found 2 games that were of any interest to me: Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong from some site that I found, but I didn't care at the time. I was so excited! I downloaded both, and started playing Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong ran normally, as far as I know. The game ran normally until the ending. When I finally finished the game, instead of Donkey Kong falling on his head as he always did, (Or so I've heard.) he was saying "WHY?!" as he fell to his death. Donkey Kong's ghost floated up, and stopped at Mario. "I thought you had Peach to love. Was what I did really that bad? You didn't have to kill me." Donkey Kong said, and continued to float off the screen. Mario fell to his knees. A text box appeared saying "You killed Donkey Kong. This means one thing. You are mental." Now I know that this was some joke hack meant to freak out little kids. I thought nothing of it.

I tried to screenshot this, but my storage was full, which was weird, considering I never took photos with my phone. I looked in my photos and there were thousands of blank white photos. I tried to delete them but it simply said "No." I searched through the photos until the last one. It wasn't blank like the others, but it had a message, written in messy blue writing. I looked, and the message said "You can't deny it. You are mental." Then the photo deleted itself, replaced by another blank photo. I shrugged this off as some virus that came with one of the games, and went back to the emulator.

When I went back to the emulator, there was a new ROM, called "Mario is missing!" Hmm.......Where did I hear that from? I decided to try it, thinking that it would be fun. A message box appeared which said "Mario has been kidnapped! You must save him!" and took me straight to the game. It was a really easy game. I managed to beat it in 30 minutes. Even I could tell that some of the levels were cut out. When I finally beat it, I rescued Mario from his cage. He came out, and stared a Luigi for 5 seconds. After that, Luigi said "What? No thank you?" Mario continued to stare. Luigi started to look disoriented. "Okay...you're freaking me out now." Luigi said. He started to walk backwards, and ran the other way, off the screen. There was yet another text box that said "You ignored your brother. You are mental."

By this point, the sentence was burned in my mind. I decided to play Super Mario World. This game ran normally, except for a few glitches that I just ignored. I played until I got a Yoshi, but every time I got him to extend his tongue; he'd say "Ow!" I sacrificed him to boost my jump, but when I landed, Mario wouldn't move. He turned the other way, and looked into the pit where Yoshi had fallen. The screen faded to black.

It then cut to Yoshi falling into a grey pit. It was just this for a couple of seconds, until he said "I thought we were friends..." He then fell to the bottom. Another text box appeared saying "Another murder. More proof. You are mental." The screen cut back to Mario, still staring into the pit and said "What have I done? Poor Yoshi..." Now I think this is some sick hack. This time, I could move Mario.

I continued the game with nothing else weird happening, except for Mario looking a bit more depressed, until I got to the level before the boss. It was a straight level with no pipes, higher platforms or monsters what-so-ever. The sky was red, as if the whole kingdom was on fire. I went forward for about 10 minutes, until I started to notice things. In the distance, there were houses on fire, with smoke coming out of the tops. It was this for about 5 minutes, until I started to notice trees with small rodents, cowering in fear as Mario passed. Another text bow appeared. It said "Do you wonder who did this?" with a yes or no choice. I picked yes. Another appeared saying "It was you. You did this. The reason? You are mental." When I found the castle, Mario looked up at the castle, and walked inside.

When I beat the final boss, He yelled "NO!!!!!" as he felled in the lava. I continued to save the princess, when Daisy appeared, saying "What is she doing here?!" "Peach, I-I-I can explain!" Mario said. They both left. Bowser's ghost came to Mario and said "I didn't know you were this cruel! Why would you do this?" followed by Yoshi saying "I thought we were friends..." They both left. At this point, I had no control over Mario. He said "Goodbye, cruel world." and jumped into the lava. Another text box appeared saying "Mario is now dead. You are still mental." My emulator crashed. After all this, I deleted the emulator, reported the games, and never played any Mario games again.
