Marilyn was only 12 years old and Laila, 14 when they witnessed something no one believes...

Looking in her full length mirror, she wondered if she would ever grow her hair as long as her older sister's, 'Why do you have to have such long hair, Lai?'. Laila, her sister replied, 'I don't know, Mar'. They were just heading out to see their grandma's grave near the old town's church. As they were walking, Laila was telling Marilyn about the circus that their grandma always visited and adored.
'The Town's Circus?' Mar said in a curious tone of voice. 'Yes, Grandma loved them'.

...

They arrived at their destination as the cold wind blew over them, leaves dropped from their homes and ominous sounds found their way crawling in Marilyn's ears. She and her sister never knew how their grandma died but they wanted to know as much as anyone could ever do. 'I miss her' Laila moaned.

...

As they were walking home, Laila and Marilyn saw a very tall and very wide tent that looked just like a circus and wondered if that was The Town's Circus so they went to have a look. The tent looked a bit damp and old. A man with a top hat and a velvet coat asked them in a very deep voice, 'Are you here to see the Town's Circus' show?'.
'So this IS the The Town's Circus?' Laila asked the man.
'The one and only!' He proudly replied.
'Oh no, we just came to see if it was, we have no money, sorry' Marilyn told him.
'Well, you got your answer so you can leave now.'

...

They felt a bit offended when they heard him say that. Laila scoffed, held her sister's arm and dragged her to her side, 'Let's go'. Walking home, they passed the grave yard, they saw their grandma's grave and saw that there was something that someone left recently so they ran to see what it was.

It was a picture...

On the picture was their grandma with a man that looked exactly like the man they met earlier on. And it was. They gasped and brought the picture with them to show to their mom.

...

Laila showed the picture to her mom. 'Is this grandma?'
A conversation started.
'Yes, that is your grandma'
'Okay but who is THIS?' Pointing to the man, Laila asked in an angry voice.
'That man there?'
'Yes, WHO is HE??'
'That man, he is part of the circus your grandma loved, The Town's Circus but unfortunately, a fire took place and bent the whole thing down'
Laila and Marilyn stood in shock, their faces as pale as a blank canvas. Frightened.

...

'B-b-but we just past it, we even saw the man on the picture!' Marilyn exclaimed.
'Don't be ridiculous, you two, they were wiped out the year your grandma died!'
'You gotta believe us, mom'
'Its late, go to bed.' Their mom replied without caring one bit about what they said.
'But-'
'NO! Go now!'

...

But they couldn't sleep AT ALL. Their minds were fully corrupted by the fact that they saw something they shouldn't have seen.

...

They finally got some rest but something woke them up. Marilyn was too scared to sleep on her own bed so she lied down next to her sister, both thinking what woke them up. It was 3 in the morning. A dark and tall figure silhouetted next to their shut curtains. But by the time they could call for help, it was clear. They saw a man with a top hat and a velvet coat. 'Still wanna know who killed your precious grandma?' The man spoke. 'Guess, he is standing right in front of your
'WHAT?' Marilyn and Laila replied.
'SHE set fire to our circus and all she said was that it was an accident. I survived the incident and the taste of revenge took over me. Your grandma was nowhere to be seen after that. Actually it was probably because she is now in a grave. I killed myself after as there was nothing left for me in this cruel world. She took EVERYTHING from me. Now I will take everything from her, even if she is dead!'

...

You might think they died after that night but they weren't the one who died...
