There once was a young girl, with little blonde curls. Her eyes were blue that twinkled like stars in the night sky. She wore dresses, buckled shoes, and a single ribbon in her hair. She was raised to be polite and kind. She was her daddy's angel and her mama's world. Her name was Isabella, and went by Bella for short.
Bella and her family were moving into a new home. It was much bigger than her old one. She thought she had moved into a castle. Her room was huge and her closet the size of her old one. Her mother held her hand as they explored her new wonderland. The movers were setting everything up as her mother was dragging her along to conduct them.
She had sent the men to put some boxes in the attic. Bella feeling a little curious had slipped unnoticeably away from her mother's grasp. As one by one the men filed down laughing and chuckling as they went; little Bella, went up to explore. She had been a bit afraid at first but, the innocence of a child had urged her up. She glanced around as she reaches the top. The large un-curtained window was letting the warm sunlight pour in. Bella didn't know she was being called but, she knew exactly where she was going all along. She makes her way over to a large toy chest in the corner. Greedily, she snatches her prize and holds it close to her chest.
Her mother had realized she was gone, cried out for her. "Bella?! Bella, where are you?!" She searched for her panicking. Asking the movers if they had seen her, they shook their head as they went about their business. Her mother had noticed the attic stairs down, hurriedly she ran up them to find her daughter with the doll. She was humming a song, one her mother did not recognize. "Bella, you don't run off like that without telling me. You scared your poor mother." She scorned. "I'm sorry mother; I was just playing with Sara Beth. Look how beautiful she is." She smiled up innocently showing her mother the doll proudly. "I found her up her all alone." Little Bella rocked the doll like a new born. "It is a very pretty doll, it looks expensive too. Wonder why she got left behind?" Her mother mumbled.
She was too busy with the movers to worry over such a thing at the time. Grabbing Bella's hand they hurried down the stairs to get the movers along so, she could start unpacking. Bella had gone to her room to play with her new found friend. She played with her door closed for hours, only coming out once for a snack. She had taken two plates of food back with her. Her mother not giving it a thought smiled to herself, thinking how her daughter had made an imaginary friend.
Soon, her father arrived home ready to sit down to dinner. He called down his angel, whom came running down, leaping into his arms with doll in hand. "Look daddy! This is Sara Beth I found her in the attic. Her old family locked her up there and left her all alone!" Her voice was sympathetic. "Well, she sure is very pretty honey." He scrunched his brow. "I wonder why they would leave such a thing as pretty as her." He kissed her on the cheek.
They had sat down for dinner that night and Bella insisted that Sara Beth have her own seat and plate. This had gone on for a few nights before Bella had started to get hateful. She was throwing temper tantrums, breaking things, and even kicking the family cat. Her parents had warned her about her change of attitude and that it would result in things that would make her sad.
One night her mother had walked by her door and heard her talking to her doll. She smiled sweetly, leaning silently against the door to listen in. She jumped back shocked to hear another voice reply to her. She threw open the door wildly with fear, switching on the light to see who was in her daughter's room. "Who were you just talking to?" Her voice a little shaky. Her daughter looked back at her bewildered and replied, "Sara Beth." Her mother opened her closet and looked around then under her bed. "Bella, don't lie to me, I heard someone in here." The young girl simply replied, "It was only Sara Beth, mother." Her mother had become very angry and taken the doll from her for lying. She slammed her door shut and quickly walked away from the pain of her child's wails.
She had tossed the doll on the small couch in their room before explain what had happened with her father. They decided that the attachment to the doll had become unhealthy and would give it back in a couple of days. The next morning her father was headed to her room to kiss her good bye. When he got to the door he paused. He could hear his daughter and another voice talking with in her room. He threw open the door, turning on the light he looked around quickly. His daughter was sitting up in bed with the doll sitting up across from her. "Did your mother give you that doll back?" he asked angrily. Bella shook her head saying, "Sara Beth snuck out and came into my room after you were sleeping. She said she was afraid to sleep with you and wanted to sleep with me." Her father snatched up the doll and told her she was grounded for two weeks with no doll. He stomped down the stairs and told his wife what had happened. They were very worried about their daughter. She was stealing and lying. She had become a totally different person since they moved. They simply passed it off as the move for the reason she is acting out. Maybe she was just lonely since she didn't know anyone in the neighborhood. Her father set the doll on the cabinet and left for work.
That night he returned home and called down his little girl for dinner. He had decided he had been too hard on her and would lighten up her punishment if she had been good for her mother. She came hesitantly down the stairs, glaring at him. His eyes immediately were on the doll wrapped tightly in her arms. "Where did you get that? Mother, did you give Bella her doll back!" He was very upset now. "No, I hadn't moved her from where you laid her." She replied confused. "Sara Beth said you're a mean dad! You hurt her and told her you would take her away from me and leave her alone again!" Bell yelled at her father. Now, her father had had it with the doll. He ripped the doll from her arms, bent her over his knee and gave Bella a spanking. Afterward, he marched out the door and slammed the doll into the garbage can. Bella was in tears when he walked in. "You're a mean daddy! I wish you weren't my daddy at all!" She screamed at him. He sent her to her room without supper.
That night he had went to apologize to her but; she had cried herself to sleep. He went to bed with a heavy heart; his wife had reassured him he was doing the right thing. He awoke an hour before usual and decided to go ahead and get up. Dragging his feet through the kitchen, he switched on the light. There sitting at the head of the table where he sat, was the doll. She was sitting up staring right at his with shiny menacing eyes. He had had it, he was losing his temper. Yelling out at the top of his lungs, he screamed for Bella. Mother and daughter met at the top of the stairs looking down at him rubbing their eyes. "What's wrong dear?" Her mother asked worriedly. "What's wrong? Your daughter went out last night at got the doll out of the trash can!" His eyes were piercing Bella with rage. "No I didn't daddy! I swear it! She can walk, she got out herself! Tell him Sara Beth! Show them you can talk." She had run down the stairs and was pleading with the doll. "Please, Sara Beth tell them I didn't do it or he is Gonne spank me again." She started to tear up. "I have had it with this nonsense." Her father hissed through gritted teeth. He stormed out the door still in his robe. When he had come back in, he grabbed the doll and waved it in his daughter's face one last time. "Say good bye, Bella." He growled at her. Mother and daughter ran to the door as her father walked out. He had started a fire, his intentions were clear. Her mother held onto her in shock of how her husband was handling this. Bella whimpered, her lip trembling. Her mother covered her face with her bosom glaring at her husband.
He held the doll over the flames teasing his angel, "You brought this on yourself Bella. This has to stop." Just as he was about to drop the doll, it rose up and grasped his wrist. To his horror it started to scream out, "No, Please! Please don't burn me!" He frantically started shaking his arm in panic. Yelling out, causing all the neighbors to come out and see what was going on. Her father was crying out in fear as he pried the thing off his arm. Once releasing it's grasp, he hurriedly tossed it into the fire. It screamed out in agony. He covered his ears and ran to his family. There they held each other tightly as the doll continued to cry out, "Someone help me!" The neighbors had gathered around frightened by the calls for help. They watched in shock at what was happening. It got up once but, fell down reaching out for Bella. "Help me Bella! Help me!" Mother and father held their daughter as she frantically tried to rescue her doll. Soon the doll had melted away and the screams died down, leaving behind a frightened family, along with a shaken neighborhood.
