That One Night When I Dreamed

My cute little puppy was playing with a ball. Casper was determined to beat the crap out of that ball. ‘Cute', I thought. Suddenly, a noise was heard. I looked towards the window. So did he. It was night outside but a full moon light was showing. A movement in the bushes outside caught my attention. Casper growled. I looked at him. He stared at the window and growled again. I didn't move. I saw a part of a thick black fur behind that bush. My heart skipped a beat. Casper gave a cute but fierce bark. I looked at him again. Something emerged from the bushes. My heart stopped. ‘It can't be real', I tried to convince myself. It looked straight at me with its blood red eyes. Barking, Casper ran towards the window. I sat there, frozen to the seat. He leaped at the window. ‘NO! STOP! Come Back!!', I wanted to yell out all these things to him but words refused to come out of my mouth. Then something happened which made all the hair on my hand to stand upright. Mid-air on the leap, my cute puppy transformed. He changed into something big and black. He landed on the porch and turned to look at me. He looked like a dog but way bigger than any dog I knew existed. He looked at me with his big black eyes and grinned to reveal his teeth. That look meant something. It was him saying to me, ‘Don't worry, nothing can touch you while I'm still alive'. Then, he turned to face the beast that emerged from the bushes. With a blood-curdling howl, he ran towards the creature. 10 feet away from it, he pounced. I woke up with a sudden gasp.

I looked around. I was in my bed. It was all a dream; I heaved a sigh of relief. I checked my mobile. It was 2:30 am. I got up to relieve myself; went to the restroom. I turned on the lights in the hall. Before going in I noticed that the main door was unlatched. ‘We might have forgotten to latch. Will come back and lock it', I thought. I got in the restroom and relieved myself. I pressed the flush down. It didn't work. ‘Keep forgetting to call the plumber', I thought. The flush in this restroom sometimes worked but most times it flushed only after some 10 or 15 minutes of pushing the flush button.

Suddenly, I heard the main door open. Someone had come in. ‘Maybe one of my flatmates was coming in. That might be why the door was unlatched', I thought as I was looking into the mirror and washing my hands. The restroom door was just half-closed. I wanted to see who had come in. So, in the midst of washing my hands, I just poked my head out a bit through the half-open door. At first look, I saw nothing. Then, in the entrance to one of the bedrooms, which was shared by two of my flatmates; Barton and Sanders, I saw the end of something furry as it entered the room. I was confused. I pulled my head back in. I washed my hands but was still in the restroom. I thought I heard a shriek. There was a small hole on this restroom door. I looked through it. For a minute, I just watched. Then, suddenly, something huge and black crossed over from that bedroom to the one opposite to it, which was used by another of my flatmates; Sullivan. My heart beat rose. I saw drops of blood on the floor from where that thing had crossed over. I was scared. I didn't know what to do. Out of fear and in haste, I switched off the light in the restroom and without a sound, closed the restroom door. Now, I looked through the hole.

After a few minutes, that thing came out again. I got a quick glance at it. I couldn't believe my eyes. Standing there, blood dripping from both its claws and teeth, was a creature I knew to have existed only in mythologies; a werewolf. ‘Was I seeing things?', I thought. Without making any sound, I splashed some water on my face. I looked back through the hole again. I didn't see anything. I heard some sound coming from the bedroom near me; the one I shared with another one of my flatmates; Victor. The creature was in that room. I looked at the hall; there was blood everywhere. I didn't know what had happened to my friends but I feared for the worst. If it was killing them, then I was next. After a few minutes, it came back to the hall; blood dripping everywhere. It looked around. I was very scared now. I could hear the sound of my heartbeats and feared it might hear it too as it was getting louder each second. I stopped looking through the hole. I went to a corner of the restroom. My breathing got heavier. I was sweating all over. I hoped it would go away. I covered my mouth with my hand hoping that no scream would come out of me unknowingly. A few minutes later, I gathered a bit of courage to look through the hole. I went near and peeped. I saw it standing near our couch. It smelt around a bit in the air and was now making its way towards the main door. A small sense of hope filled my mind. I was going to live. Then suddenly, the flush went off. My heart froze. It stopped in its tracks. I clutched my hand and sank back to the corner of the restroom. My mind was blank. A few drops of tears filled my eyes. I knew this was the end, but something in my head asked me to look out that hole once more. I got up; slowly and steadily. I got near the hole and looked through; didn't see anything. Surprised and shocked. No sound to be heard and nothing was to be seen. I looked away from the hole and stood straight; confused, scared. A few seconds later, I looked into the hole again. It was all red. I couldn't see the hall or anything. There was some bright red light at the hole. Nothing except the red light. I looked away again and stood up. Suddenly, something crossed my mind. My bones froze. Chills ran down my spine.

The creature from my dream; the one behind the bushes; it had........ Red eyes.
