imaginary friend

Before this story begins, I will introduce a small child. He was a single child with both parents and lived in the suburban area. Like many single children, this kid had an imaginary friend. This child is named Adam and his friend is called Zack. To the parents, this was perfectly normal; the only problem was that Adam kept changing his friend's name. In the past, the name had changed every two months from Jiffy, Colin, and Liza to Zack. Before his friend was called Zack, both parents were wary of the name Liza; the same name as a runaway child who used to live nearby. Now, Adam's friend was called Zack and that was all that mattered.
This was the only special attribute which the parents took note of, but not the children of the neighborhood. They all noticed three major things from Adam's imaginary friend: 1) every time its name changed, so did its personality, 2) Adam only spoke about his friend and never spoke to his friend directly, and 3) every time his friend changed, Adam was full of elaborate details as if his friend was a whole new person. Because of this, the neighbors didn't get close to him and Adam became reclusive. But Adam had his friend, and that was all that mattered.
With this background information, the story can now begin.
September 12
A normal day like usual, Adam was late for school again. He grabbed his breakfast for him to eat on the way to school. The old lady in the neighborhood, also a member of the neighborhood watch, gave him some cookies as he passed by. He finally got to school on time.
For the past month, Adam started to get better grades in school. When asked, he says that it's because Zack tutors him. Since he won't share his secret, he eats his lunch alone.
Adam eats a hearty lunch before rushing upstairs. His mother warns him of how unhealthy it is to have midnight snacks, since she knows that he will come back down for that.
September 14
During breakfast morning, the father grumbles over the rats in the attic. The family already tried to fumigate the house twice but the scratching of rats against the walls still kept them awake at night. They are considering getting another cat; the last three went missing. Adam comes from the stairs, makes himself a bowl of cereal and goes back to his room. This happens three-four times every morning. His parents are only proud of their child's metabolism.
For lunch, he grabs a couple of snacks, a box of crackers and some juice boxes. For dinner, he has another hearty meal.
September 24
One of Adam's last friends asks him about his friend. Adam talks on how he keeps his relationship with his imaginary friends. He says that he knows the secrets of Zack, and if Zack were to not talk to him, he will tell on Zack. Mad at how Adam had his friend, his schoolmate never talked to him again.
October 12
This was the time nearing the two month cycle. Adam would be in a bad mood, saying on how Zack spoke less and less to him. The parents would try to cheer him on, talking about how he was too old, and perhaps on how it was already time for him to stop having an imaginary friend. His parents were so preoccupied that they would temporarily forget about the rats.
October 19
This time, instead of having a new friend, Adam became gloomy. He started eating less, and remained in his room more often. When at school, and the few times outside his room, he would be talking on how he will tell on Zack this time.
October 22
This was in the afternoon, around 8 pm. Adam walked downstairs, grabbed the phone, and dial 911. This was his message, "hello, I am Adam Bell. I wish to report the location of Zachery Timber. Yes. Yes. He is in this address of the phone I speak of, second floor, third bedroom to the right, inside the closet. Yes. I will be waiting. Thank you."
Upon the hearing of a stranger in their house, Adam's parents grabbed him, ran outside, and got in the car. After confirming what he said to be true, they waited for the police.
When the police came, they only saw the most horrific scene that they wish they didn't have to see. This was the report:
4 bodies:
Zachary Timber, fugitive on the run - suspected murderer. Cause of death: exposure, dehydration. Time of death: 96 hours.
Elizabeth Mark, runaway - suspected kidnapping. Cause of death: intoxication. Time of death: 1-3 months.
Colin Brian, no report. Cause of death: intoxication. Time of death: 4-6 months.
Unidentified body, no report. Cause of death: asphyxiation. Time of death: 1 year ago.
Several bones of cats, maybe strays.
Water filter.
Blocks of dry scat, probably filtered and dried to remove odor.
Wrappers and containers.
Toys, dolls, and clothing.
A 2 feet long machete.
When asked on why the kid made the call today, he said, "Because Zack hasn't talked to me for three days, so I told on him."
