Firefly

When I was a kid, I loved Fireflies. The beauty of them captivated me. I lived near the woods, where the magnificent creatures were everywhere. At night, I'd sneak out of the house with a jar and a flash light, but it was rare I'd have to use it, since I'd use the fireflies I had caught that night. One night, I remember very well... Though, that might not be a good thing. I have spent years of therapy, years of shrinks telling me that I was seeing things, simply paranoia. But I know better...

That night, I snuck out of the house using the long rope I kept tucked away under my bed. It was odd, because I noticed a lack of fireflies. Normally, there were hundreds lighting my path. Now, there was one. I shrugged it off, thinking they had gone to sleep (I was 8), or had just been attracted by something else. I followed the firefly through the long and dark woods, carrying nothing but a flash light and a jar. When it felt like I had been following the glistening bug for hours, I decided to stop and check my surroundings (I didn't want to get too lost). I turned on the flash light, and pointed it around, not shining directly at the firefly, since I didn't want to scare my catch away. When I pointed close to the Firefly, I noticed there was a dark scaled body, around the length of a tall human. I followed the body to a long black tail. Not quite sure of what to think, I shined my flash light back up. There were long shoulder blades, leading to a thin neck. I stepped back when I saw the head. It looked like a human skull, but scaled, and only one eye socket. In it, was a small, beady eye, glowing yellow off the moons light.

I... I can't remember what happened after that. I must have passed out, and woke up in the hospital, meaning I was out for at least an hour, given I lived far, far away from anything at the time. I remember waking up, to my mum's sad face.
